Advertisements Create Negative Kids' Health News

By Jeff Wise

The average child views approximately 50 advertisements each day. Many of those ads speak directly to your child, trying to get them interested in their product. When the product is a food item, most likely it is something that is unhealthy and can harm your child. Parents should be aware of this kids' health news and advertising.

If you're not sure what I'm talking about, sit down with your kids the next time they watch television. Watch the commercials closely so you know the images your child is being exposed to. It's amazing how children can be lured into an ad with bright colors and fun characters.

Ads don't affect a lot of kids. They either don't pay attention or just don't really care. But many other children are strongly affected by these persuasions and they go straight to mom and dad to get the item they just saw on TV.

But you are smarter than this and you know not to buy something on impulse if it's bad for you. The trick is teaching your kids not to act on impulse either. You must explain to them that just because a food item looks good, it doesn't mean it's good for your body. If they only eat bad foods, then your kids' bodies will become very sick.

Many parents have trouble with ad persuasion too. They can just as easily see an ad and go out and buy that product the next day. If you have a habit of doing this, perhaps it will be wise (for your sake and your kids' sakes) to practice more self control. When it comes to food, even though you can eat whatever you want, not all foods are beneficial.

While the media is constantly showing us and telling us that we should be healthy and lean, ironically we're still persuaded to give our bodies over to unhealthy foods. Almost all of the food advertisements are for items full of aspartame, MSG, high fructose corn syrup and other bad ingredients.

Sometimes it's hard to know if a food is good or bad. For example, some yogurt ads claim they have a healthy product. You won't truly know until you go to the store and look at the item's nutritional information. If it has one of the items listed above, don't buy it. Also check the grams of sugar, the calories and the fat grams.

Fast food companies have a lot of ads and kids love to visit their facilities. Parents shouldn't just give in because they're easy and make kids happy. Foods at these businesses are very harmful and too much of it can really damage a child's health.

While the kids' health news about false advertising may be discouraging, your family can overcome it. The key is to become informed and to practice self control. Keep your family healthy and don't let advertisers determine what foods your kids eat.
