Cypress Dentists and Dental Assistants

By Kate Bailey

Dental assisting jobs are a popular form of employment for many interested in the dentistry field. A dental assistant will typically perform office, laboratory, and medical duties in a Cypress dentist's office. In some states, dental assistants must be licensed with a degree or a certificate, while other states allow for assistants to be hired without any sort of schooling. Some states also require for you to have a certification in radiology and x-ray technology. Many assisting jobs allow the employee to learn while on the job. Most employers, however, will prefer a candidate who has a certificate or degree in dental assisting, as it often takes less time for an employee to "learn the ropes" of the job.

Another offering is something called veneers. Veneers are used for those who have damaged teeth. Chipped and broken teeth often need them, and when other damage happens, that is also corrected. There are certain types of discolorations that happen which whitening cannot take care of and veneers can be very useful for this. These are thin caps that are made to match the enamel of your teeth. There may be reshaping or reduction done when these are used. There is a certain level of care that is required with veneers, certain foods that have to be avoided and things that you will need to do to care for them so that they last a long time.

The second type of problem that an emergency dentist is well equipped to deal with is a case where a tooth is damaged as a result of some injury. Most of us have had an accident of some sort or another that has resulted in a chipped or cracked tooth. When dental emergencies like these take place it is often the case that they will require quick treatment of the kind in which these dentists specialize. Oral injuries can be frightening, but a dental professional who specializes in cases like these can ease the worry and pain associated with them.

Some dental practices allow for an assistant to stay in one line of work, depending on their experience and background. Other dental offices may require an assistant to be willing and ready to perform all three of these duties at some point during their working day. Some offices have a limited amount of assistants, so the job seeker must be willing to work hard.

Someone looking for an assisting job should be prepared to perform all three separate types of duties. They should have excellent manual dexterity, especially if their job will require them to help with direct medical patient care. A job seeker will benefit from getting certification or degrees in the field. Interning at Cypress dentist offices is one way to get both experience in the field and experience for your resume. The job outlook for dental assistants is good, particularly as dentists begin to require more help to handle an increasing patient load.
