Tasty Raw Food Snacks For After School

By Allan Hatchell

All parents want their children to eat right. Providing them with raw food snacks is one way to achieve that. The choices are tasty and pack a lot of nutrition. There are many choices and they are easily made before the kids get in from a day at school or play.

When it comes to being picky about what they eat, children should win an award. Getting them to enjoy a healthy vegan snack seems nearly impossible. However, there is a wide array of appealing combinations that will make the kids quite happy.

All kids love smoothies. It's a great choice as they are not only tasty, but also nutritious. A fruit shake is easily made by blending a banana, orange and pineapple along with brewer's yeast.

The vegetarian version of sushi is another hit. Slice up a variety of vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, avocados and cucumbers into small julienne strips. Wrap with sheets of seaweed. Let the kids help out for some fun.

Brownies are a favorite of most children. The raw version is easy to make and it tastes delicious. Combine almond butter, honey, carob powder and date paste. Spread it into a pan and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours. The store bought version is no comparison to these rich tasting treats.

For a more portable snacking choice make some lettuce wraps. Squeeze some lime juice onto cut up avocados, onions, peppers, cilantro and tomatoes. Roll them up in romaine leaves and serve. They also make a great lunch box alternative.

When it comes to snacking, chips are a staple. Grind some fresh cut corn into a paste. Frozen corn may also be used. Use cumin, garlic and chili powder to flavor the mixture and then spread it onto a dehydration tray. Score the snacks and dry them for several hours. It's a healthy alternative to those bagged options that are sold in grocery stores.

Pudding may be made by blending mangoes, coconut and lime juice. Mix until creamy and thick. Sprinkle on some chopped nuts like pecans.

Make some mock fries by slicing some zucchini into thin strips. Make some ketchup by blending tomatoes, dates, lemon juice and a small amount of water. It's a healthy alternative to those deep fried treats that kids love so much.

Implementing raw food snacks does not have to be difficult. A healthy vegan snack will allow kids to better focus in school and gives them more energy. The entire family will feel better after making this change in lifestyle.
