New Haven Residents Stop Snoring And Sleep Apnea With Dental Help

By Selena Chery

Human beings have been troubled by insomnia problems for much of their history. New Haven sleep apnea problems reflect what afflicts people globally and not only in one locality. In many cases the problems arise when people become obese, resulting in changing bodily composition.

Snorers do not all suffer from insomnia apnea but many do. The two conditions are similar but they have distinct consequences. A person who snores may be unaware of the noises emanating from him that might cause a building to shake and other people in it to have sleepless nights on account of the irritation caused by unpleasant sounds.

A condition in which repose is interrupted many times in the course of the night is known as sleep apnea. A sleeper stops breathing and has a momentary panic attack which causes him to awake, or return to the incipient stages of rest continually. Deep and restorative repose may be prevented causing many serious health issues.

When a person slides into deep repose his eyes tend to flicker. This quality of rest known as 'rapid eye movement', is essential. Shakespeare commented that this is vital in order to 'ravel up the sleeve of care'. This metaphor captures vividly how deep repose is so vitally important.

A popular way of combating the problem is known as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. This involves a sleeper in wearing a mask over his head throughout the night. Air is fed into it through a pipe attached to a device. The mild pressure from this device on the airways is said to prevent the interruptions. A common problem is that sufferers have such difficulty wearing the cumbersome mask and coping with the air blowing into their faces that they give up.

A New Haven sleep apnea dentist might come up with different dental devices depending on individual circumstances. One device known as a mandibular advancement device is used to advance the lower jaw in such a way that the breathing pattern of a sleeper is altered, in such a way that interruptions are avoided. Other techniques can retrain the tongue so that it does not flop in the way of an air passage.
