How To Straighten Your Teeth In (Almost) Complete Secrecy

Find Out If Invisible Braces Are Right for You

When it comes to straightening teeth during adulthood, invisible braces like Invisalign® brand aligners have proven to be a very workable solution for over a million people. The reason? Unlike traditional metal braces, invisible braces are just that – invisible. This makes a tremendous difference for adults who want straighter teeth, but might not feel comfortable sporting an adolescent-style mouth full of metal brackets and wires. Invisible braces transform adult smiles discreetly, so no one but the patient needs to be aware that any kind of treatment is going on.

Unlike traditional braces that are bonded to the teeth, invisible braces use a series of removable clear, plastic aligners that are switched every two weeks or so to slowly move teeth into the desired position. Not only are these aligners almost completely invisible, the fact that they are also removable means patients can (and should) take them out to eat, drink and brush their teeth, so having food caught in braces is never an issue. They can even be removed for special occasions like a wedding or other event.

So what kind of patients can be helped by invisible braces? Amazingly, while they are incredibly easy to wear and live with, invisible braces are appropriate and effective in correcting a wide range of orthodontic problems, including:

Crowded teeth

Teeth that overlap because there’s just not enough room in your jawbone aren’t just unattractive, they’re also unhealthy. Teeth that are too close together decay easily, can suffer from gum disease, and may not function normally.

Teeth spaced too widely

The opposite problem of the above can happen when there’s too much jawbone and not enough teeth to fill the space. This isn’t just a cosmetic problem – it can also cause some periodontal disease, and teeth left untreated can continue to shift into “open areas.”

Crossbite

When the upper and lower jaws are out of alignment, some upper teeth wind up biting on the inside of the lower teeth. This can lead to excess wear and tear on teeth and even bone loss, and is definitely a condition that should be corrected.

Overbite

The “bunny teeth” look you get when your upper teeth protrude over your lower teeth is more than an appearance issue – it can also cause painful joint problems as well as gum issues.

Underbite

The opposite of the above problem, this happens when lower teeth protrude over the upper teeth. This also can cause pain in the jaw and joints and lead to excess wear and tear on front teeth.

With invisible braces now a real and workable solution to all of these orthodontic problems, adults should no longer have to suffer with less-than-straight teeth or the real health issues they can cause. Invisible braces can transform a crooked smile into a perfect smile – and do it in almost total secrecy. And the best news? The average treatment time is just about one year.
