Glucomannan Shows Promise as a Natural Weight Loss Herb

Glucomannan is an herbal remedy and food product derived from the amorphophallus konjac plant. The tubers of this plant are used to produce konjac flour, popular in Japanese cuisine. Research cited by the New York University Longone Medical Center indicates that taking glucomannan experienced dramatic weight loss compared to those taking placebos.

Glucomannan's Effects

The weight loss effects of Glucomannan may be due to the full feeling this herbal product produces when eaten. It swells up to 17 times it original volume when it contacts liquids. Benefits of glucomannan include lowering of cholesterol and high blood pressure and improving glucose levels in those suffering from diabetes. Side effects of Glucomannan may include excess gas or diarreah and possible obstruction of the esophagus. Before attempting to lose weight using glucomannan, talk to your medical practitioner.
