Ayurveda Detox Diet

Ayurveda is an Indian healing system based on the sacred scriptures of the Veda. It promotes well being by addressing physical, nutritional and spiritual areas that can lead to disease. Herbal remedies, a good diet and exercise all play an important part in ayurveda. One example where the holistic approach ayurveda uses can be seen is in a detox program recommended by American College of Healthcare Sciences' Gia von Karl, CAS, RH (AHG).

Ayurvedic Detox Program

Referred to as Pancha Karma, the program is designed to remove toxic buildup in the body and then rebuild its immunity, according to von Karl. One of the crucial parts of this detox is a special approach to diet which is followed for seven to ten days. The major points include avoiding alcohol, nicotine and nicotine; eating organic fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts and seeds; drinking eight to ten glasses of filtered water a day; use of herbs such as ashwaganda, ginseng and fennel; and avoiding animal meat and dairy products.

In Ayurveda, Mind is Crucial

When undergoing the detox, avoid overstimulating and polluting influences like television, loud noises and computers. Yoga and meditation are recommended, as are saunas and massages using essential oils. Also, try to get exercise to encourage sweating and a faster metabolism which helps the detoxification process.
