The Four Stages In Surgical Skin Tag Removal

By Cameron Ores,lisa Robertson,rose Winslet

You can expect there to be four stages if you are going about skin tag removal via surgery. We will attempt to look into all four of these stages. We will be making at attempt at understanding what happens in each phase. Many people believe that skin tag removal is a form of surgery, albeit minor. Thus, it should be left in the hands of a medical professional. This is the sort of procedure that need not be carried out by a dermatologist: even an ordinary general practitioner of medicine, or even a physician assistant, is often in a position to carry it out. More often than not, these procedures are performed in the comforts of one's home, especially if they are simple and straightforward.

The diagnostic stage is considered to be the first stage of any surgical procedure. The skin tags will undergo close inspection. Are they really skin tags, or are they just random skin formations? This is to avoid any mistakes where a simple skin growth is erroneously dubbed as a skin tag. It would be unwise to undergo surgery to remove a skin tag when, in the first place, it is not even a skin tag. There are times when, just before the surgery has been performed, diagnosis still hasn't been made. It is often the case that the diagnosis has been made even way before the person has thought about removing the skin tag. This is actually important because it helps the person decide on how he or she should have the skin tags be removed.

The second stage in the surgical skin tag removal process is the pre-operative stage. This is on the assumption that the skin tag is verified to really be a skin tag and that there is a need to remove it. The clinician should start prepping things. There will be pain involved in the succeeding surgery, and if the clinician thinks that the patient should be saved from feeling much of the pain, he has to apply the necessary anesthetics. The patient may also be given some medication to combat anxiety, if it emerges that he or she is too anxious. Another important task carried out during this stage of the surgical process is disinfection. That means that the specific area where the skin tags to be removed are will have to be cleaned thoroughly. He will also see to it that the surgical tools he will make use of during the procedure will be sterilized and cleaned.

The actual operative stage will then follow the pre-operative stage. This is where the skin tag is actually taken out of the skin. It is done using surgical instruments, and unless there are complications, it is usually done quite fast (often in less than ten minutes).

The fourth stage in the surgical skin tag removal procedure is the post-operative stage. Post-operative care is a must, regardless of how the procedure was carried out. But how it was carried out will have an impact on how the post-operative care will go. Larger cuts or incisions on the skin often entail some sewing or stitches. Small cuts or wounds tend to close up by themselves, so if the cuts have been small, it would probably be a better idea to let nature take its course.
