Foot Warts - 7 Treatments To Consider

By Sean T Saunders

If you have noticed warts appearing on any region of your body such as feet, hands or knees, then you have been affected by the human papilloma virus. You are not alone because roughly 40 percent of all people in the world are infected by this virus. Warts are more commonly observed on the feet region and the type of warts that is noticed here is called plantar warts. Plantar warts don't look like callouses or corns, these are shaped like a cauliflower with many black specks on it. The HPV virus thrives in hot and humid environments like locker rooms and because skin is easily shed from your feet this virus is very contagious. There are two types of methods that you could use to get rid of warts on feet; you can go to a doctor or you can treat them at home. In this article we are going to discuss the kinds of treatments used in these methods.

1. Surgical Wart Removal - Cryosurgery, electrosurgery and laser surgery are the three kinds of surgical procedures that can be used to get rid of warts on feet in an effective way. However, you will need to visit the doctor's clinic or hospital a couple of times to get this treatment done. It should be kept in mind that surgery can be both painful and expensive.

2. Freeze Your Warts - In the cryosurgery surgical treatment the physician will freeze the wart causing a blister to form under it which makes it easy to eliminate the wart. The doctor does this by using an applicator to put liquid nitrogen directly onto the wart. Cryosurgery is a bit painful but however it is preferred by many people because it does not leave any scars over the skin.

3. Electrosurgery Wart Removal - The most common type of surgery to get rid of warts on feet is also the least painful. In this treatment method, a thin needle is inserted into the wart tissue and electric current is passed through it. The virus that resides underneath the wart tissue gets destroyed by this treatment and the wart can be easily removed.

4. Laser Wart Removal - . This is due to its high expense and also because it is an extremely painful procedure. It is an effective way to remove warts permanently although there can be some scarring

5. Home Wart Remedies - Salicylic acid is the main ingredient in many over the counter pharmaceutical products that are used to get rid of warts on feet. Plantar warts may be removed in about a month using this product at home. After the salicylic acid softens the tough wart tissue it can be removed.

6. Tape Your Warts - A very simple solution for removal of plantar warts from your feet is to use a duct tape. Just cut a small piece of duct tape, slightly bigger than the size of your wart and secure it firmly over the wart tissue. Keep this in place for about 5-7 days. Then remove the tape and soak your feet in hot water. After that an abrasive like an emery board can be used to remove your warts. Keeping a piece of garlic clove under the duct tape could also be beneficial because the oil from the garlic will soften tissue and destroy the virus.
