Finding Infertility Information You Can Use

By Billy Haney

If you have been trying to conceive for at least a year or have been unable to successfully carry a baby full term, then you fall within the category of infertility. This is a heartbreaking problem for many couples who want nothing more than to bring their own child into the world to brighten their world.

The majority of infertility problems lie with the woman. There are many different causes of infertility but more then half of the cases of infertility are a result of female conditions. The rest of the cases are due to sperm disorders in the man or even unexplained causes. In order for a woman to become pregnant, her body needs to menstruate properly. A very common cause of infertility is due to ovulation problems. Women can also have tubal blockage, uterine problems and previous tubal ligation which can cause a woman to be infertile.

Another big issue with fertility is the age of the woman trying to conceive. Since women lose around a thousand eggs every month of their life, it is obvious that chances of conceiving one of them get decrease with time. Women of age are also more likely to have health issues that can stand in the way of a health pregnancy, such as PCOS, endometriosis, or some type of sexually transmitted disease.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, otherwise known as PID, is a health condition that strikes many women and causes serious infertility problems. It starts out with an infection in the vagina or cervix (such as many STDs like gonorrhea) but when the infection is not treated properly it allows bacteria to penetrate the uterus and enter the fallopian tubes and ovaries as well as tissue in the area. This creates serious inflammation and scarring which makes future pregnancies impossible, even after treatment. Most women with PID will end up going through IVF to conceive.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, is another issue that stands in the way of a woman's fertility. This is actually a hormone problem which creates erratic menstrual cycles, which makes it extremely difficult to conceive successfully. The great news is that many women with this condition are able to successfully carry a baby, but they have to take medication first to correct the hormone problems and stabilize menstruation.

Since a variety of body parts control and secrete hormones which could play a role in infertility, the following body parts should be thoroughly checked for problems: hypothalamus, pancreas, ovaries, testes and the pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands. A problem with any of those areas could lead to infertility.

While there are several medical reasons which cause infertility, the couple also has to look at their lifestyle for causes of infertility. Things like smoking, consuming too much alcohol or illegal substance, weight issues, sexually transmitted diseases or even too much stress or exercise are all factors which cause infertility.

Whatever the issues may be, eliminating stress is essential to conceiving a baby with obstacles. For those couples who cannot officially be diagnosed with a specific problem, this can be a very frustrating and stressful time. The best advice is to find ways to relax and try to accurately track when the woman is ovulating.
