Low Testosterone, A Symptom Or An Ailment

By Jake Alexandre

Low testosterone is a problem from which many males suffer without even knowing the cause. The reason in most cases is that they do not know the symptoms of the problem. One may start experiencing fatigue, obesity, low sex drive and simply give no attention to the problem considering it lack of sleep etc. such symptoms vary according to individual, many people could share the same illness and experience different symptoms.

Some of the symptoms one experiences when suffering from low testosterone will be lack of energy, fatigue, reduce in muscle mass, low libido and frequent urination. These symptoms vary from person to person and not all symptoms appear at one time. Low testosterone is not a problem of old age, it can occur in men of any age. Testosterone production naturally drops when men tend to grow old; however something like that happening in youth is a point of concern.

Testosterone levels can be checked by a simple blood test normally conducted at morning. Low testosterone if left untreated can cause permanent infertility, osteoporosis and heart diseases. Therefore it is necessary to visit a doctor as soon as possible and get a thorough checkup. This will help determine the cause of the problem and the treatment accordingly. Testosterone helps burn body fat and convert it into energy, when the testosterone production lowers down the first symptom would be belly fat in males and decrease in aerobic performance.

A hormone therapy can help you with the problem of low testosterone. Hormone replacement therapy is basically replacing the constant low level of testosterone with a normal range. The treatment is for men of all ages who have low testosterone problems and can in just a matter of weeks start showing positive results. Many men who are subjected to the male hormone replacement therapy generally start reporting an improvement in their health after 4-6 weeks of treatment claiming that they feel stronger, healthier and have an improved sex drive and motivation. Low testosterone also results in a low sperm count and could eventually lead to infertility. Testosterone not only affects the sperm count but also affects its quality. Low testosterone can cause abnormal function of the prostate gland which could cause prostate cancer in old age also.

Sometimes it also happens that low testosterone is due to diet and physical inactivity. In that case zinc rich foods are recommended because zinc in the mineral needed both by testicles and the prostate to function efficiently. Physical activity like walking, playing sports or going to a gym is recommended to naturally boost one's testosterone levels. One should not try a testosterone replacement therapy on his own; there are professional certified doctors to carry out something like that. If you try it yourself, it would probably do more harm than good.
