There are several symptoms that you should keep an eye on to let you know that your dog may possibly have cancer. As I've said before, these symptoms don't necessarily point to cancer but, if you are a vigilant and attentive dog owner, you will know when something is wrong. Again vigilance is essential when it comes to canine cancer because like all cancers, if caught early, the prognosis is very good.
Some of the symptoms of canine cancer are:
1. Loss of appetite - Your dog may not feel like eating or may not eat at all! This in turn will lead to number two on the list.
2. Weight loss - Self-explanatory.
3. Mast Cell Lumps on different parts of the body - These mast cells, if left untreated and ignored can become larger and more infected! Again, not necessarily cancer, but something that you want to get checked out at your local veterinarian.
These are just a few of the canine cancer symptoms that you, as the owner of the dog should notice. As I have said before, an attentive and vigilant owner will recognize these symptoms the moment that they appear. But an owner that is not as vigilant will not notice until it is possibly too late. With cancer, the earlier that you catch it, the better. With early detection comes various treatment options that can possibly save your dog's life. Those same treatments are not nearly as effective and wide reaching, if the cancer is caught in the later stages.
Before your "best friend" even gets to that point, make sure that you take them to your local vet as soon as you notice anything out of the ordinary. This will alleviate any anxiety that you may have and correctly diagnose any symptoms that your dog may be having. Good Luck!
